We went camping at the Warren Dunes in Michigan for one night, about an hour and a half away from us. We've been wanting to go camping for a while now and we were happy the weather cooperated for us. Owen loves to be outside and loves to get dirty, so we figured he'd love camping too. He did enjoy it a lot, but by the second day he was ready to go home! I think he just needed another kid to play with or more toys, or both. The rocks and sticks only entertained him for so long. :)
When we set up camp Owen had a great time exploring and checking out the tent. We brought his pack n' play for him to nap in, but we soon learned that Owen is not a fan of sleeping in the outdoors. We decided to head out for a hike to the beach instead. Luckily, Owen fell asleep in the backpack but only managed a 30 minute nap.
(notice that little blue car goes everywhere with him)
Once we were at the beach Owen was reenergized. He was excited to see the water, but was a little timid when it came to getting his feet wet. Slowly he warmed up to it and eventually he was burying himself in the sand!
He had so much fun throwing rocks and sand into the water. Though we're pretty sure he's a righty, he throws just about equally as well with both his left and right arms. He can throw pretty far now too!
I did get in the water a little way. It was cold.
For dinner we ate foil dinners, then introduced Owen to his first s'more. He ended up only eating the chocolate out of it. He's not a fan of marshmallows!
After dinner we drove back to the beach to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan. This is a site we don't get to see from Chicago. It was pretty.
That night we all cuddled up in our tiny tent to sleep. I was worried Owen wouldn't be able to sleep with us since he never does, but he was tired enough that he did and I think he slept the best out of the three of us! We'll definitely need to upgrade to a bigger tent if we want to keep camping though.
We had a nice relaxed morning and went on another short hike before we headed home. Midwest camping is nice with all the green hardwood trees. We will miss it!

Sounds like lots of fun!
I love that picture of Josh holding Owen in the water. You should blow that up and frame it. Perfect father son picture.
